Hey everyone, it appears I’m in a war. If you thought the ubf group would just ignore all my books and all our ubfriends comments and articles, you were wrong. They have been harmless to me so far, but that may be changing. Check out the new UBF Web Management Committee Report. Here is my reaction.
Lazy Workers
The work report of the ubf web management committee contains numerous work items. Their team of six or seven people maintained 6 websites. This means they are quite inefficient. I am a technology professional and as one person I not only maintained 10 domains in 2015, I actively contributed to 4 blogs both with dozens of articles and thousands of comments. I also actively discussed hundreds of topics on various other social media outlets. If you want to see a real website, check out the Westloop Church site.
NEWS FLASH: Maintaining simple websites (like ubf.org) is NOT difficult or expensive.
Ignoring Wikipedia Rules
One item stands out in their report:
• Updated the Wikipedia page of UBF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Bible_Fellowship)
o Wikipedia committee created an updated version, but we need more resources to fight against anti-members.
Hey look I have a new label! I am now an “anti-member”! They think they are fighting against me and other former members. In reality they are fighting against the Wikipedia rules. Wiki-Admins require credible sources. They strictly prohibit conflict-of-interest postings. So no, ubf web committee, you are not being persecuted by anti-members. You are just being required to play by rules you don’t like.
NEWS FLASH: ubf does NOT control the internet!
Goal: Do the same thing repeatedly
Their prayer topics reveal their insane mindset to keep doing the same thing. I pity this Edward guy. He is just a puppet on their strings:
- Time and resources to develop new sites, specifically to support the upcoming 2018 International conference. God may help all UBF to begin planning this year. We may work well with Edward and his team.
- Maintain all active and future sites well by providing technical support to web content team and the General Director.
- God’s wisdom and discernment to understand all users’ requests, process incoming advice, and communicate well with them, in our team, and our leaders.
- Pray for volunteers to join the web content team to support the ongoing editing of the UBF Wikipedia article, as well as engaging all our social media needs (Facebook, Twitter).
NEWS FLASH: Doing the same thing over and over is NOT God’s will; it is stupidity.

Basically the powers that be seem to strongly believe that the old rules still apply. Someone at the top makes a decision and the minions obey without question.
Someone doesn’t like what Wikipedia says. So now that MUST be changed. Until then they will have no choice but to FIGHT the “anti-members.”
I’m sorry but “anti-members” is really cute!
Perhaps surprisingly, Ben, I agree with you this time. “anti-members” *is* really cute!
What do they mean with “anti-members”? Members who are against UBF? Former members who are against UBF? People who are against UBF members?
Brian and Ben, in my view you are “pro-members”. First, you are much more professional than the old school UBF. Second, you are not against something, but *for* something, namely for reform, for change, for UBF to confess their sins – just like the Catholic church is currently doing it. UBF with its 55 or so years of history seems to be even more fossilized and stubbornly unrepentent of their sins and unwilling to reform than the 2000 years old Catholic church that withstood the reformation of Martin Luther. What an irony.
Good points, Chris. But you are thinking about the reality of the situation. ubfers live in a KOPAHN fantasy most of the time– a fantasy where they keep sitting on folding chairs and chanting UBFism slogans and then expecting the entire country to change into ubfers.
Can’t wait for the “Anti-Karcher Committee” to share their report 🙂 LOL
Contact information for the Web Management Committee is right here:

If they want to fight, I propose that they settle this in person, the honorable way, as gentlemen in days of old. A duel. James Ahn versus Brian Karcher, water balloons at fifteen paces.
Or maybe dueling blogposts at fifteen paces.
Ha! I’ll take that challenge 🙂
Better yet, let’s have a comment competition. Wait, that’s not fair since ubf.org has ZERO comments and is built to be a one-way dictation of information. They built a propaganda spewing machine, essentially. I could just script out their entire website for them, and the web team could eat more kimchee.
“If they want to fight, I propose that they settle this in person, the honorable way, as gentlemen in days of old. A duel. James Ahn versus Brian Karcher, water balloons at fifteen paces.”
I’m still waiting…. 🙂
Interestingly, of the 9 people in the Web News Committee, 8 are missionaries and only 1 is American.
Though I understand and cannot expect any better, yet it’s embarrassing that the English on the website is so terribly poorly written and continues to be so.
People seem more interested in churning out the “great work of God going on” while virtually regarding the quality of the dissemination as unimportant.
So is the Web News Committee the same as the Web Management Committee? How many freakin committees does it take to run a propaganda website?
The one American is likely a “token” native shepherd. Now they can say it is “led by an American from our ministry.”
Here is a new technique that the Web Management Committee ought to try. Instead of trying to control the entire internet (which of course is impossible), create apps that monitor the online activity of all UBF members, sending a daily report to each chapter director of the material accessed. Automatically score the results so that the chapter director can instantly tell who is pure and who has come under “bad influence.”
Joe your faith is so weak! Of course ubf can control the internet! They prayed 10,000 times for 10,000 domain names to stop all their godless chatter and start giving glory to God by going back to the Bible and submitting to spiritual order so they can now write and publish beautiful testimonies and remove ALL negative information about ubf which is all lies and even make a good place to meet marriage by faith candidates online for the glory of God so that God may be glorified.
Joking aside, Brian asks about why it takes so many people and so many committees to run a simple website. In my experience, it was hard to get much of anything done in the organization because people (except at the very top) were never given much responsibility or autonomy. Everyone was afraid of doing something without permission and then getting rebuked for having overstepping their bounds. Even minor decisions had to be approved by someone very high up (JJ, ATK), and these top leaders were so “busy” running everything that you had to wait days or sometimes weeks before they would give you direction. Hierarchy, lack of freedom, and fear make an organization very inefficient.
My apologies everyone… apparently ubf is NOT fighting against anti-members like me… they are just trying to improve their Wiki page (which by the way is still breaking the Wiki rules!)
Look at how they changed the public report which now says this:
“Wikipedia committee created an updated version, but we need more resources to improve our page.”
*updated* Web Management Report
lol, except not really because that’s still kinda messed up. It’s just concealing information from “helpless sheep”.
To give commendation when commendation is due, it’s great that this original wording–
“Wikipedia committee created an updated version, but we need more resources to fight against anti-members.”
was changed to–
“Wikipedia committee created an updated version, but we need more resources to improve our page.”
I can guess but honestly I have no idea what that means! Does anyone?
What it means: “We need more people on our committee and money to hire professional consultants to edit our Wikipedia page until it says only good things about us.”
Memo to ubf leaders:
* It is not *your* Wikipedia page.
* If you had wanted Wikipedia to say good things about you, you should have treated people better.
Joe, *everything* is theirs, they are called by God, therefore the whole earth is theirs, oops, wait, not yet.
It’s a shame (I’ve said this before) that with so many Ph. D.’s in this ministry, none of them have the sense (or the balls) to run things in a rational way.
I’m guessing they have to keep the appearances for the elder loyalists, while keeping the appearance of transparency for the next generation.
I recently attended a seminar on the topic of using machine learning to find media bias. It turns out that pro Israel groups has been trying to get Wikipedians to be made admins so they could edit controversial pages to refect a more pro Israel POV. He mentioning that Wikipedia is so critical because it’s the major source of information in India and elsewhere. In fact, it was the first place a came across some of the more bothering practices that were shielded from me as a new comer.
Looks like some ubfers just can’t keep their hands off the ubf wikipedia article! Yet another edit war was sparked by ubfers trying to “cleanse” the article.
Seems like Mr. McIlhenny thinks the Wikipedia rules don’t apply to him: ubf edit war
I suppose Robert Dean McIlhenny (if he is the Rmcilhen who edited the wikipage) has too much time on his hands, given his UBF, Inc. venture in California is now “FTB Suspended” for failure to pay taxes.
http://cacompany.org/co.php?id=03043118
I wonder why his chapter in LA UBF thought they could be a for-profit tax corporation? In any case, they failed to pay taxes and are now suspended.
the rich are too “chicken” to do right
Newsflash: The shiny new UBF Wikipedia Anti-member Committee (oops I mean Wikipedia Improvement Committee..) is losing their fight against what they call anti-members.
SCOREBOARD:
Wikipedia = 12
UBF Anti-Member Committee = 0
In case you missed all the fun on Wikipedia…
Ubfers have tried to cleanse the article and failed.
Wikipedia = 32
Ubfers = 0
After five decades of vigorous disciplemaking by Korean missionaries, there are still no “native leaders” available to correct the grammar on the main UBF website.
But I’m glad those 2nd gene’s have accepted their ID. They are still eating Korean food and having lots of funs. God bless ’em.

I consider samuel Lee to be the anti member his teachings were the opposite of everything I was initially told UBF stands for. To me lay persons ministry with one to one Bible study meant each teacher decides their own curriculum and there is no hierarchy because each teacher is independent. This idealized situation is not perfect if there is ever to be a group meeting but any hierarchical structures that are used for convenience at that level can be voluntarily ignored and voluntarily agreed to and voluntarily appointed on an individual by individual basis or any numerous “bottom up” horizontal structures can be used such as voting and consensus to determine group meeting times. Group meetings of course are not necessary.
