It was mentioned by a post by Eric that El Camino UBF (Shepherd’s Church) plagiarized their sermon. Today I will demonstrate that his claim is true.

Here is their intro/opening:

I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

 

John 11:1-44

Key Verses 11:25, 26

 

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies and, whoever lives and believes in me will never die do you believe this?”

Here are some excerpts on their Easter Sunday 2017 passage:

“No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Here, God’s Son, of course, refers to Jesus Himself. Jesus being glorified through it means that, through this event, Jesus would be revealed as who He truly was – God’s Son. Jesus wanted to show those whom HE loved who He truly was. Recognizing as God would be indeed, glorious. Once they saw who Jesus was their attitude towards Him would never be the same. They would truly worship Him as their God and their King. Their life would change forever. For this reason, Jesus stayed behind two more days. Maybe they misunderstood His love for them but for their sake, because He loved them He was willing to be misunderstood. Jesus was willing to go through that battle for the sake of His beloved ones.”

And:

“Jesus love is different, even though Lazarus died, HE wanted them to see the glory of God. Jesus wanted those whom He loved to see something great, to see how great God truly is. Jesus did this in love. It is the same for us. Often, we too get discouraged; we too go through difficult and painful challenges. Even though we pray a lot still the problem is there. Jesus does not want to give us a comfortable life or to make problems just go away but, in love, ultimately He wants us to see the glory of God in our life. To see this Jesus is willing to let us go through difficult and painful times, maybe even to the extreme, but in love Jesus wants us to experience and see the glory of God in our life. Then we will be amazed at how great our God truly is.”

Now let’s look at the resurrection message by UBF founder Chang-Woo “Samuel” Lee back around 2000-2001

Here is his intro:

"I AM THE RESURRECTION

John 11:1-44
Key Verse 11:25

     "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who
      believes in me will live, even though he dies.'"


Here is an excerpt of his message:



"No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may
be glorified through it.'" Here Jesus said that this had happened so
that God's glory might be displayed through him. Jesus did not see
Lazarus' sickness as a misfortune: It was an opportunity to display
God's glory. There is a great difference in the way of thinking between
spiritual people and physical people.  The best example might be Jesus'
death on the cross. When good Jesus died on the cross, many people saw
it as the most sorrowful event ever since the world was made.  But it
was not. Luke the historian saw Jesus on the cross as the most glorious
event... Nothing can end in tragedy in
Jesus. What Jesus said also teaches us that we must live for the glory
of God throughout our lives and deaths... This also tells us crystal clearly that
the purpose of man as he lives in the ever-changing world should be to
glorify God. We should not depend on sick "Lazarus." We should not cry
because of the "Lazarus." We must live for the glory of God. In other
words, what Jesus said teaches us that man needs a life purpose.
Without a clear purpose of life in God, no man can escape from the
purpose of getting worldly fame and wealth."

You notice how both intros/openings are identical. And did you noticed how the excerpts from El Camino UBF and the founder’s look awfully similar. All the writer of the El Camino UBF resurrection messenger did what rephrase and used a different word choice to make it seem like his message was new and original. But in reality all messages from UBF are Lee’s philosophy, stale, and have been reused for more than 50 years.

 

Not to mention that Lee’s [and the rest of UBF’s] messages were plagiarized from Confucius philosophy.

Here is a quote from confucianism:

“Filial piety is the root of all virtue. Of all the actions of man, there are none greater than those of filial piety.” At the time of Confucius, filial piety meant for the son to love and revere his parents, aid them in comfort, bring them happiness, keep the family name honored, and and to be a success in life. There was, to some degree, a negative consequence to filial piety. This was the obligation of sons to live after marriage under the same roof with the father and to give him childlike obedience as long as he lived. Also, the will of the parents was superior to the
extent that if the son’s wife failed to make them happy, he was under an obligation to divorce her regardless of how he felt. Neither did sons disagree with their father. If they did, the father was to beat the son until blood is shed and the son was not to show any resistance.”

Now let’s look at an excerpt from another one of Lee’s messages:

“3. Spiritual order in the family and
community (18-28)
These verses tell about an incident that reveals the weakness of Noah the man of faith. We are tempted to leave this story out, but the Bible writer put it in because it teaches an important truth. Man is a social being; every society must have orderly relationships in order to function properly. The family is the first social unit–the building block of society. The spiritual order which should exist in society and in the family is very precious; it is necessary to man’s peaceful and
fruitful life on the earth. This spiritual order was violated by
Noah’s youngest son, Ham, in an incident which seems ridiculous and
insignificant–and seems to be Noah’s fault. Noah drank too much wine and got drunk. His youngest son saw him uncovered and made fun of his father. The older 2 sons, however, covered their father, showing him great respect–even though he revealed his human weakness. When the basic lines of authority and respect among people break down, the result is moral anarchy
and devastating corruption of society. So this was no small event.”

Did you notice how the quote from Confucius and the excerpt from Lee’s message sound awfully familiar?
