The great coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich, gave lucid answers as to what makes a great team. He should know. He has won five NBA championships. He explains how to build a great franchise and what he looks for in players. His answers equally well explain how to build a great church and what he looks for in a Christian leader. By interchanging a basketball team and a church, here’s what he said:Read More

Bad Bible Study
This is a follow up article to Only Bible Study Can Help You. “Bad Bible Study” popped into my head when I heard about a movie I don’t intend to watch: “Bad Grandpa.”
The greatest gift God bestowed on me through UBF was to love Bible study (Ps 119:97; 1:2) as the way to truly knowing God (Jn 17:3), being filled with the Spirit (Jn 6:63; Gal 5:22-23), and experiencing his trinitarian presence, love and immeasurable grace (Ps 34:8; Jer 31:3; 1 Ti 1:15). So I am as pro-Bible study as one can possibly ever be ever since I had a mystical conversion and became a Christian in 1980 while studying the Bible with a UBF missionary. I am a firm believer that grasping Scripture aright is the way to transcendence and to solving and resolving any problem in all of life. I have personally found this to be true. I’m sure that countless others have as well.Read More
Review of a Chicago UBF Lecture
As we examine the Sunday lectures from various ubf chapters, we can begin to see the various layers of bondage found in UBFism. In my review of a 2016 New Jersey UBF lecture, you can see that they are stuck in the UBF behavioral layer–very concerned about upholding the UBF ministry. In my review of the 2016 new year lecture from Toledo UBF, you can see they are stuck in Bible/cultural layers. Both lectures stem from the foundational UBFism layers of focusing on your own problems and learning the UBFism ideology. Today I present my review of a recent Chicago UBF lecture. We get to see a different kind of bondage. The Chicago lecture still springs from the foundational concepts of focusing on your own problems and constraining your thoughts to the the ideology of UBFism. The difference from New Jersey and Toledo is that Chicago is stuck in the Evangelical/Bible layers of bondage. All three lectures are bound to UBFism with the intention of capturing your mind and soul to become loyal and friendly toward UBF. Here is my review. I present these in the hopes that many more may begin questioning and examining these things, and see the chains that bind, and so that many more may begin a new segment in their journey.
Review of the 2016 Toledo UBF Key Verse Lecture
The new year period is usually a hopeful time. After reading the 2016 New Year key verse lecture from Toledo UBF, it is clear that they are still lost in a fog of confusion. I felt very depressed after reading their key verse lecture, sort of like the feeling of a hangover after a depressing new year bash. Here is my review.
A 2016 Message Review
Well it is that time again! It is time for another Karcher message review of a ubf lecture. I decided to post this review publicly after some private discussions. We former ubf members have indeed moved on with our life. But some of us care about the people still at ubf. From time to time we wonder if they have changed anything for the better. We have moved on but has ubf moved on? Examining a ubf lecture is tedious and usually very depressing. Here is my new review based on the Karcher Message Rating and the Karcher Sermon Danger Scale.
Only Bible Study Can Help You
I truly believe that Bible study is beneficial and helpful but…
Once while inviting students to Bible study on the UIC campus, a student expressed that he wanted to go to medical school. So I told him confidently, “Studying the Bible will help you get into medical school.” He was quite surprised and very interested and intrigued. He said, “Really?” I said, “Absolutely!” He was persuaded. He joined UBF, came faithfully to Sunday worship service, as we studied the Bible every week for a few years. Then he was accepted to medical school. That was the last time I saw him. Well, Bible study surely worked! I guess it just didn’t work the way I had expected.Read More
