Sincerely, Sara Barry |
It is with this mission report that Barry started to change.
Barry from this point on doesn’t evangelize the hospital she talked about in her previous report. In fact Barry gives no explainatation as to why she stopped evangelizing the hospital
This is the mission report in which you can see the seeds & roots of UBFism begins to be implanted and sprouted. Ex:
There are some teen-age boys in the village who oppose the church and are trying every way they can to break up the meetings. They make all kinds of noise during the services – they throw rocks on the roof; sing and whistle and the other night, they locked a howling dog up in the adjoining room. In an effort to discredit the church with the building owners, they have broken window panes, and roof-tiles, eaten the turnips stored in the yard and pulled the bolls off the cotton in the nearby field.
This is most likely an exaggeration. The teenagers are doing what they were doing because they are just being teenagers (in this case destructive teenagers) and don’t have a vendetta against God as Barry make it sound so. Also why didn’t Barry confront the teenage boys herself and preach them the gospel? It’s quite suspicious if you think about it.
This mission report and onward is where Barry starts to emphasize, focus, and unfortunately become obsess with numbers. It’s a tragedy that Barry moves away from the pure and simple desire of just spreading the gospel to fixation on numbers.
