A Friendship Fractured

The leader of the UBF Chapter I use to go to has a daughter named S.B.

I first meet her at the Spring 2014 bible conference where I introduced myself to her and shook hands with her. She was kind and friendly. Overtime I developed a bond with her. Some time after my awakening of seeing the “fantasy turn horror” at the wedding on Jan 10, 2015 we still talk and the truth is she not only treated me as a human being but as an equal.

What is the focus?

r

What is the focus? That is the question that ex-members of a UBF chapter in California have asked.

On a meeting for bible study with ex-members one of the sisters brought up the question about the purpose of the group. We as a group had a discussion and came to the conclusion.

The conclusion being that our purpose is to be a body of Christ that reveals God clearly and be a safe haven to both ex-members and current members whom have also witness & experienced the abuse and sometimes dehumanization from UBF pastors, seniors, and junior members. Our purpose should not be about just merely exposing UBF problems or be a group of haters. If we do so as the sister pointed out we create more problems and end up effecting and harming everyone especially God.

What she said got me thinking about how for a time I become a perpetrator like the the UBF leaders. This got me convicted of my sins and realizing that it is time to turn a new leaf by having a new beginning.

So me and some of the ex-members created a blog that shows techniques and methods to resist UBF’s mind control and possibly prevent and/or resist Stockholm Syndrome. It is called UBF: Ur Being Flat. The reason for this title is because musically you don’t end on a high note in UBF but the melody is always flat with the constant redundancy.

22 Minutes of Mind Control

m** Admin update: The transcript of the first few minutes has been added to this article ** This audio clip was submitted recently. It creeps me out. Please take a listen and share your reactions. This 22 minutes is all you need to know about UBF and the mind control that goes on there. They keep working on you to break you down mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Discern. Defend. Deliver.

A campus welcome?“I am not going to join your Bible cult!” The words sting. My heart races. I smile weakly and walk away. That was my last encounter while fishing on campus for someone to be part of the kingdom of priests and holy nation. What is fishing, you may be asking? What is a kingdom of priests? Good questions. Fishing is the insider language we used at a Korean campus organization called University Bible Fellowship (UBF). Fishing is the group’s interpretation of what Jesus meant when He told His followers they would become “fishers of men” (see Matthew 4:19). The idea was to go fishing on campus. It meant a weekly or daily excursion walking around a college campus and inviting students to Bible study. We had the holiest of intentions in doing this. The fact that I need to translate what I used to do on campus speaks volumes as to why I wrote this book. My hope is that current members will be reading this, and so I begin with some thoughts for them to consider.

Defending Donald Drumpf

Recently, I read an article about JK Rowling defending Donald Drumpf’s freedom of speech. She was speaking at Pen America’s annual literary Gala in New York this past May.

She stated, “If you seek the removal of freedoms from an opponent simply on the grounds that they have offended you, you have crossed a line to stand alongside tyrants who imprison, torture and kill on exactly the same justifications.”

Rowling is a “fierce opponent of censorship.” She claims that curtailing Drumpf’s right to speak diminishes her own “freedom to call him a bigot.”

Spotlight

spIf it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse one.

Before the end of 2015 the film Spotlight was released but seemingly went unnoticed by the popular audience. This film recalls a play-by-play account of the uncovering of the pedophile ring in the Roman Catholic Church, specifically in the Boston area, but outreaching to the entire world. The importance of this film goes without question. I am not interested in providing a summary or review, because there are various media sources for such a purpose. Rather, it is important to raise the crisis of physical (including sexual) and spiritual abuse among religious communities. For the community on ubfriends we are familiar with these issues and we are not afraid to speak up. In fact, anyone who has participated in any New Religious Movement (NRM) is also familiar with the fact that outlets for exposure are limited and once inside even family is distanced or even removed and replaced altogether.

Message Review – El Camino UBF (Harvest South Bay Church Gardena)

shRecently ubfriends was requested to review messages from El Camino UBF, in California USA. I must admit that I have no patience anymore for the garbage that churns out each Sunday from UBF chapter directors and shepherds. The messages are so shallow that they hardly warrant a review. Reluctantly, I took a look at the latest El Camino UBF message. What I saw intrigued me. Here are my thoughts.
