“I am not going to join your Bible cult!” The words sting. My heart races. I smile weakly and walk away. That was my last encounter while fishing on campus for someone to be part of the kingdom of priests and holy nation. What is fishing, you may be asking? What is a kingdom of priests? Good questions. Fishing is the insider language we used at a Korean campus organization called University Bible Fellowship (UBF). Fishing is the group’s interpretation of what Jesus meant when He told His followers they would become “fishers of men” (see Matthew 4:19). The idea was to go fishing on campus. It meant a weekly or daily excursion walking around a college campus and inviting students to Bible study. We had the holiest of intentions in doing this. The fact that I need to translate what I used to do on campus speaks volumes as to why I wrote this book. My hope is that current members will be reading this, and so I begin with some thoughts for them to consider.

Three Scapegoats
Four Themes in Mein Kampf
When I say I am an author who writes about taboo topics, I mean it. My newest book is about one of the most taboo topics–Hitler’s Mein Kampf. The reading and research I did to prepare for this was enlightening and well worth setting aside the taboo and going beyond Godwin’s law. In fact I sent a copy of my book to Mike Godwin and quote him in the book. Godwin did not write his law to stop all conversation about Hitler but to move us toward more thoughtful discussion, with the hope to prevent another holocaust.
in 2016, the 70 year German copyright expired, and so Hitler’s book is now available. When one of my Facebook theology/pastor friends, Tim Gilman, shared the article about the release of Mein Kampf, I joined the heated social media discussion. At one point I remarked, “I could right a book about this topic!” Tim replied, “You should!”. And since Tim is a designer and connected to the publishing world, his company published the book. Here are some thoughts from my new book, “Evil: Confronting Our Inner Hitler“, that I would like to share with you. I find them highly relevant to America 2016.
The Mission Statement of Jesus
From time to time I am reminded of the blatant flaws in the UBF theology of sacrifice, and the need to publicly correct such flaws. Today I received two thank-you emails from friends who have suffered much in their lives at the hands of UBFism. Such gratitude inspired me to share today’s post. What is the mission statement of Jesus?
Message Review – El Camino UBF (Harvest South Bay Church Gardena)
Recently ubfriends was requested to review messages from El Camino UBF, in California USA. I must admit that I have no patience anymore for the garbage that churns out each Sunday from UBF chapter directors and shepherds. The messages are so shallow that they hardly warrant a review. Reluctantly, I took a look at the latest El Camino UBF message. What I saw intrigued me. Here are my thoughts.
Improving Your Image
Someone asked me this week about why the negative articles about UBF are all from the 1980’s and 1990’s, with almost no recent articles. Did UBF suddenly get better since the death of Samuel Lee in 2002? Here is my answer.
Step up and Speak out!
Ben gives some good advice, and lets off some much needed steam in his recent article, “Back off and let it go!”. Sometimes we do need to just let it go. Other times, we need to step up and speak out. For me, this Memorial Day weekend is a time of speaking out. Interviews have already been scheduled with various media outlets, regarding my experience with the highly secretive and curiously mysterious group we all know and.. ahem.. love. So I am speaking out, echoing the multitude of silent voices of former members and current members who wrestle with being trapped in the KOPAHN enigma. If there is anything I want to avoid, it is to avoid keeping a low profile. I seek to be as visible as possible.
